Shouts of 'Shiver me timbers' and 'Walk the Plank' could be heard at Beverley-based Educare Nursery last week, when it was taken over by pirates.
There was no need for alarm though, because all of the pirates were under the age of five and more interested in having fun than sailing the seven seas.
Educare organised the pirate-themed day to celebrate the completion of the nursery's new bespoke play area, which includes a giant pirate ship. The children made their own pirate accessories, such as eye patches, and played pirate games.
The day also happened to fall on the opening weekend of the new Pirates of the Caribbean Movie, and so everyone will be catching pirate fever. The new play area was created by Mitchell James Contractors Limited, with a little help from the children at the nursery themselves.
Nursery director, David Whincup, said: "The children absolutely love the play area and we thought that a pirates day would be a great way to celebrate its completion.
"We now have an exciting and colourful place for the children to play outside and the pirate ship has really captured their imagination. We would like to thank Mitchell James Contractors for their hard work and for creating such an exciting space where the children can play, learn and grow.
"Many of the older children know the character of Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and the children really forward to dressing up like him. We just hope that our little pirates don't take over and try to make us walk the plank!"
