MJC moves into new premises and doubles its employees to cope with flood repair work

An East Yorkshire refurbishment business has doubled its staff levels since the region was hit by widespread flooding in June and repair work is still high in demand.

Staff at Mitchell James Contractors Limited (MJC) have been busier than ever since thousands of homes suffered devastating structural damage as a result of the floods.

The MJC team has grown from six people in June to 12 at present and the business has moved into new office accommodation, in Marfleet Lane, east Hull, to cope with its rapid expansion.

Jamie Dempster, managing director at MJC, says his business's excellent reputation for high quality repair and construction work has resulted in many people overlooking their insurance companies' preferred contractors and specifying that they want MJC to carry out the repair work to their homes.

Mr Dempster said: "The floods, although distressing, have provided an excellent opportunity for MJC to serve local residents with high quality repair and construction work, which is still high in demand now.

"We have taken on six additional members of staff since June to ensure the level of service we provide remains as high as people have come to expect from MJC.

"It has been a very rewarding experience helping residents, many of whom have seen their worlds turned upside down by what has to be the worst natural disaster seen in the region for many years.

"Being able to give back the comfort and high standard of living that the floods took away has brought a new dimension to the work we undertake."
